Why open source startups are in better shape?

Bill Snyder writes why the nuclear winter doesn't affect open source startup software companies as much for other companies.

He says that many open source companies didn't overbuild in the first place, second the segments like virtualization, cloud computing and open source have a critical advantage and the third open source is still seen as a way to cut costs.

But for now, at least, open source companies that have already been funded and are beginning to generate cash, are something of a shelter from the storm sweeping Silicon Valley.
